Upon graduating from Delaware State University, Derek was already working as a Marketing and Community Relations Coordinator for the Philadelphia 76ers. He was promoted to Group & Season Ticket Sales Manager for the 76ers after two seasons. During this time, Derek grew a passion for the Sports & Entertainment Industry as well as helping children in his community.
He donated hundred’s of tickets to the Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, and other community partners to attend 76ers games, and gave children the opportunity to play in his basketball tournament held on the 76ers court! He also organized youth events such as Stop the Violence Conferences held at multiple Universities, as well as Concerts in his hometown. His biggest concert to date was with World Renowned Hip Hop Artist Meek Mill in 2011.
Derek then set his eyes on another goal and received his Masters Degree from Strayer University in Public Administration. Derek has moved throughout Corporate America over the past few years working on his business acumen as a financial advisor, event planner & community liaison, marketing expert, sales and service expert, General Manager & Basketball Scouting professional, and entrepreneur. He worked for a Fortune 100 company New York Life Insurance, and previously served on the Board of Financial Literacy for the NCAACP of New Jersey.
Derek currently works as a High School Basketball Scout for Prephoops.com, Director of Programs & Interim Site Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg, and for the Philadelphia Eagles Gameday Staff Management Team. During his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, he has assisted with the planning of many events at the stadium such as; Army-Navy Game, Soccer Gold Cup, US Women’s Nationals Soccer Team, National Hockey League Stadium Series, Taylor Swift Concert, Rolling Stones Concert, Jay-Z & Beyonce Concert, Kenny Chesney Concert, the Super Bowl Parade, and NFL Draft.
As for the Boys & Girls Club, he has poured into the youth with his ability to relate to the next generation, and serve as a role model. Derek enjoys running the NFL Flag Football and Jr. NBA Basketball Leagues which include over 200 participants respectively.
